Date: November 14th, 2002
Location: Tucson (In City Limits)

Targets: M42, Saturn

Being that Saturn is in the East just after Sunset, I decided to take a peek. This would be the first planet that I would observe in the new scope. The highest magnification I can get right now is 60x [10mm ep = 600mm focal length]. The coloration was very nice. Very bright yellow and orange. I could easily see the rings of Saturn. It was a little too small in the eyepiece to see the Cassini Division, but when I get my new eyepiece [or even a barlow] I will be able to I'm sure.

I did notice, however, the purple "glow" around Saturn. I had expected this as I was told in reviews of this scope this would happen on planets. It really didn't bother me, but it was noticeable. I really want to get that T-Ring for my camera now!

I also took the opportunity to look at M42 again. With a slightly older Moon, it was very bright out, and I felt the Nebulae was a bit washed out because of this.  All in all it was good night. Spent about an hour with Saturn, thinking about the Cassini-Huygens mission and how long it would be before it reaches this planet.
